To the Catalan brand, led by Custo Dalmau, joined Desigual, Pedro del Hierro and DELPOZO, at the exhibition week in the Big Apple.
Desigual not only debut on the catwalk, also opened at the same time, their flagship store on Fifth Avenue. A room of 260 square meters, located at number 530 of the prestigious shopping area.
This is the first time Desigual showed at New York Fashion Week and the Spanish fashion brand did not disappoint. Desigual woman is fun, sexy and uninhibited.
For Spring/Summer 2014, Managing Director of Desigual, Manel Jadraque presented a flirty Mediterranean inspired collection filled with colourful prints, polka dots, stripes and weightless fabrics. The collection titled 'For Everybody Sex, Fun & Love' featured a variety of black and white mod inspired pieces, bohemian dresses, over-sized hats, jackets, and airy tops and bottoms. The collection was divided into three themes; fun, love and sex. The show opened with the theme of fun. Eye-catching animal prints, bold symbols and sixties references burst onto the scene and got the party started.
The love portion of the show featured hippie chic garments, which had an air of romanticism.
The final portion of the show, sexy featured beautiful black sheer dresses with sequins and beading. Transparency and weightlessness was intricately woven throughout each piece sent down the runway especially during the later part of the show. This added to the optimistic and carefree nature that defines the brand.
Another Spanish brand that also debuted in New York was Pedro del Hierro, Cortefiel Group's property, with Carmen March as creative director, who presented a collection on Saturday with a nod to Spain (moles, coats, ruffles) but intended for a global audience aware of new trends.
On Sunday, paraded DELPOZO with Josep Font designs and Custo Dalmau, a veteran in the Fashion Week New York, he has been on the show, the last 17 years. USA, where the actors of Friends or Sex and the City have worn shirts of CUSTO, is already the biggest company's international market.
The international designer showcased delicate pieces juxtaposed through a play in subtle transparencies, woven patterns and tribal prints. This time around, Custo Barcelona focused on the cocoon pants that present perfectly alongside tiny shorts and miniskirts.
Prints created and customized specifically by Custo Barcelona range from silk and chiffon to printed leather. The collection colour scheme surprisingly ranges from white to black yet include the signature Custo trademark of colour in every look. From tribal prints with metallic lurex to laser cut dresses ranging from hues of pink to blue.
The graphics printed on lurex allow fabrics for one-of-a-kind shine and luminosity, and overlaid silk chiffon provide glimpses of the shape and printed underlying pieces. Tribal-inspired geometric shapes unfold, creating new optical effects on each garment. Embossed guipure lace of varying patterns also creates transparencies in coats, cover-ups and tunics.
For women, thin-heeled pumps, buckled at the ankle are subtle, delicate and a perfect match for each piece of the collection. Glasses featuring bevelled, air-mounted lenses in varying colours match the pieces along with visors for headwear, round out the looks. The men’s spring shoe line feature slip-on, metallic patterned footwear.
