Venezuelan-born, New York-based Ángel Sánchez is one of the world's top bridal and evening wear designers.
The designer, who has created looks for international celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep, is set to showcase his latest collection at this year's Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, from 25th–30th April at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via venue. He will also take part in Barcelona Bridal Night, the show's gala evening, where his bridal and evening wear creations will be shown for the first time in Europe.
Ángel Sánchez (Trujillo, Venezuela, 1960) began his design career at a very young age in his mother's dressmaking workshop in Valera, a city in Trujillo state,in Venezuela. However, he soon chose to study architecture and worked professionally as an architect before returning to his fashion origins. He eventually founded his own design company, which rapidly expanded through Latin America, winning over the Southern Cone's most elegant women.
He then extended his business and opened a workshop in New York in the 1990s. Since then his success has been unstoppable. Being a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), nowadays he is one of the world's most outstanding designers and a top favourite for celebrities like Beyoncé, Meryl Streep, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, Giselle Bündchen, Elizabeth Hurley and singer Thalía, amongst others, who have regularly worn his creations on the red carpet and even on their wedding day.
Sánchez's style reflects his passion for highly structured, contemporary and feminine architectural forms. Well-known and appreciated worldwide, his brand is sold at leading stores across America, Asia and Europe. At Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week he will present his bridal and evening designs at the show's gala night, on April 26th, 2017.
‘There is nothing more beautiful and delicate than the dew on a spring morning'. That's how Ángel Sánchez defines the inspiration for his latest bridal collection. The fabric, the detailed embroidery and the colours, ranging from different shades of white to light blue, all reflect elegance. ‘This collection' the designer continues, ‘is very Audrey Hepburn, with all the grace and femininity of '50s fashion', with full skirts, narrow waists and lace detailing.
Sánchez assures us that he is ‘very excited about the opportunity to showcase my collections at a prestigious international bridal event like BBFW, and pleased it's in the creative city of Barcelona, the capital of design and architecture, which is another of my passions. I've visited it several times and it's an honour to hold my first fashion show in Europe on the Barcelona catwalk, which without a doubt has become a benchmark for international bridal fashion'.
Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, organised by Fira de Barcelona, continues its strategy of promoting its brands and content internationally, attracting creators, labels and buyers from the world's main bridal fashion markets. This year's show will include runway shows from more than 20 top-notch names in bridal and evening wear and around 260 exhibitors are expected to attend, half of them international brands, showcasing their 2018 collections to buyers, the media and guests from all over the world.
